In college, Alan-Arthur Aurelia answered an email for an audio engineering school needing bands for it’s audio engineering students. Alan-Arthur answered the email and the school was The Institute of Audio Research (IAR). He convinced his bandmates to get up early, bring their instruments and commit to a 8am-1pm class where Alan-Arthur’s band, Not From Concentrate was to be recorded for the students at IAR to hone their audio engineering skills under th guidance of Grammy-Winning Engineer Dan Grigsby.
Alan-Arthur and Dan immediately hit it off and a professional and personal relationship quickly formed. Not From Concentrate became the final house band at IAR and was consistently called back for six consecutive years!
IAR closed many years ago now, but Alan-Arthur has gotten into producer mode and hired Dan Grigsby for many projects that include a concept record about a fictionalized school shooting called No Name and the band’s two biggest songs Clark Kent, which is about the lead singer and Alan-Arthur’s spouse Jaime, coming out as transgender and Die Tryingwhich is about never giving up.
In 2023, Alan-Arthur decided to create a work without industry assistance. He bartered free music lessons to the daughters of a friend who plays drums professionally for drum tracks, and utilized his home studio to create Comfortable Life (Getting You Nowhere Fast). This completely home-grown production expands on the cellphone music video style that was introduced in Clark Kent and is a more freewheeling and optimistic song by comparison to many other works by Not From Concentrate. This song always packs the venues where Not From Concentrate performs and gets everyone dancing every time.
After receiving a large grant award from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the City Council, Alan-Arthur Aurelia was given the freedom to create a concert of his choosing. He chose to do a piece that inspired him in college, which was Pictures at an Exhibition. Alan-Arthur updated the pictures from the original ones Mussorgsky experienced and projected the artwork over the orchestra to a sold out audience.
